The East Coast’s Largest Waterfront Festival Turns 30!

It’s an Oyster Festival at Oyster Bay (natch!).

This annual event is the largest waterfront festival on the East Coast and started out years ago as a celebration of native son Theodore Roosevelt.  Now, more than 200,000 are expected to attend and enjoy fun, festivities, fellowship and OYSTERS!  Live entertainment, parades, craft shows, sailing Tall Ships and an oyster eating contest.

Don’t like oysters?  Come anyway and enjoy typical festival foods and clams and seafood. What a great way to spend an Indian Summer weekend.

What: Oyster Festival

Where: Oyster Bay, Long Island

When: October 19, 20

About "Big Chuck"

Hi folks, this is "Big Chuck" here. I love Upstate New York! I have written several books about the region, do a lot of public speaking around the state, am an award-winning radio broadcaster (since 1989), write a bi-monthly newspaper column and give walking tours of Cooperstown, N.Y. Yes, I do keep busy! I hope we can share some Upstate stories on this blog! If you would like to take a look at my series of Upstate New York books visit
