Historic Hanford Mills Hosts Woodsmen’s Festival May 4!

Historic Hanford Mills Museum, in the northwest Catskill Mountains, is hosting their annual Woodsmen’s Days Festival on May 4.

This annual event attracts hundreds from throughout the region to the site at East Meredith, N.Y.

The Woodsmen’s Festival celebrates 200 years of logging, sawing, and woodworking history. The Festival features demonstrations of lumberjack skills by the SUNY Cobleskill Woodsmen’s Club,  timber frame building, and a variety of woodworking demonstrations.

Visitors can watch the sawdust fly as logs are sawn in the Museum’s sawmill, powered by a 1926 Fitz overshot waterwheel. At the box shop, Mill workers will use the vintage woodworking machines to turn Mill-sawn lumber into useful wood products, like boxes, crates and tub covers. The day also features kids’ activities, tree walks,, great food, a book sale by Hobart Book Village, and more.

This you are man (or woman) enough to handle a 2-person saw? Take a look!

The mill is one of only a handful of historic, original working mills in the nation.

Where: Hanford Mills Museum, East Meredith, NY (Delaware County)

When: Saturday, May 4
