The annual Oz Fest in Chittenango is this weekend, ending Sunday June 2.
This is one of upstate New York’s favorite, fun festivals. Live music, costumed characters, parades, food and “everything Oz.” Chittenango is the birthplace of L.Frank Baum, the author of the legendary book.
L. Frank Baum’s great-grandson, Bob Baum, will be in attendance with stories and facts about his famous family member.
Every year the festival spotlights “guest stars” who come to the village to add a bit of “Hollywood” to the event. This year Caren Marsh-Doll will be there, She was Judy Garland’s actual stand-in during the filming of the 1939 classic “The Wizard of Oz.” Myrna Swenson will also attend. Myrna was married to one of the familiar Munchkin soldiers in the film, Carl Swenson, who passed away in 2009. Both Caren and Myrna will be available for chats and autographs during the weekend. Other notables, including authors of Oz books, will also attend.
Keep your eye out…you never know who you’ll run into along the yellow-brick sidewalks of Chittenango!
The Oz Fest parade is always one of the highlights of the weekend!
